SIRIUS misses a great marketing opportunity.

I've seen a number of ads for SIRIUS Satellite Radio the last couple of weeks. It's amazing to me that they're still charging for the receiver. If I were leading their marketing efforts, I'd be giving the receiver away (with a 2-year subscription, of course).

The cost of the service is reasonable at $12.95 per month, but the cost of the receiver is a barrier to entry, by my way of thinking, for the mainstream. At over $100, one has to be serious about radio, especially in this day of iPods. Sure, SIRIUS has a much broader selection than I have on CD or MP3, but I'd never buy the receiver, and then pay for the service. SIRIUS is missing a huge opportunity to get ahead of the market.

Remember, give the razor way for free, but charge for the razor blades.
